The Doors of my Heart

This collection of photographs began in an accidental way. I was grouping recent work into pairs and noticed that several of the diptychs included doors, in one way or another.

Curious, I began to sort through archives of images from years past, searching for doors. One after the other, the doors appeared. Rewinding through time, I began to see doors as metaphors for the changes in my own life. The ongoing pandemic has infused my work with new meaning.

This project is composed of rediscovered work and orphan images. Because I took the images long before I decided to use them in any body of work, they read as authentic and sincere rather than contrived.

Pairing each door, a vertical rectangle, with a complimentary image, a square, was effortless effort. I worked intuitively, giving over the choices to how the pairs made me feel. Seeing the connections was pure joy.
