Beauty Is Its Own Excuse

For me, one of the most useful things I can do when I find myself caught in a swirl of thoughts and feelings, is to notice my physical surroundings. I find something beautiful or striking and this gives me a few minutes to pause, even when that’s the last thing I want to do. Taking pictures can ground us, slow us down, and help to lift anxiety. It’s a way of taking a breath without telling yourself to take a breath; it just happens naturally.

Spring Bouquet #3

Handmade Urn from Saipua, Spring 2026

It is a joy to create something I really love. It’s a joy to work with this kind of focus and feel such deep appreciation for every small thing. Floral bouquet #3 from my spring subscription with Westwind Flowers - Farm & Studio, loaded with the most gorgeous tulips and Lenten roses, was the subject for the day. I’m building a collection of pictures to document the six week subscription and reveling in the luxury of fresh flowers on Fridays.

Life Lessons are Everywhere

There is a season of life where cracks in the foundation can no longer be ignored. Sometimes, you can get away with just shoring things up a bit. But in other situations, like mine, a complete over haul is required.

No question. This old boat speaks to me because of those rusted out areas. In spite of its age, the boat still looks seaworthy or at least like it would give you an exquisite adventure. And really, isn’t that the best we can hope for?
