Culpeper Train Station

Approaching the Train Depot, Culpeper, Virginia, August 2025

I love the idea of train travel. But. After having actually taken the midnight train to Georgia (12 hours and 48 minutes), the reality settles in. It’s a long time in a confined space, which does not sit well with me. The romantic notion of train travel is good fodder for mysteries and romance stories, but you couldn’t drag me on another train. It was still fun to take the picture!

The Smile Looking Back At Me

Daddy in Grandma Dot’s Kitchen, June 1963

Project inspiration from a recent Artifact Uprising newsletter and this video.

A vintage photo + a high resolution scan + a large format print = wall art that brings sweet memories

This is my dad. He passed away in 1998 when I was only 38 years-old. I miss him everyday, but when I need to feel close to him, I only need to look as far as my two sons. The smile I see looking back at me from their faces is his.

Watching Corn Grow

Watching Corn Grow, August 2025

For the first time in my life, I have free time. And by free, I mean time to do with as I please. And all I want to do is to see my little corner of the world in its most authentic presentation. The camera has an uncanny ability to show us everyday moments and ordinary things in new ways. I wonder at small things like these wrought-iron chairs, placed strategically in front of the small garden with its rows of corn. I imagine what it must be like to watch corn grow. And know that the wait is worth the time spent. The rewards just ahead. Sweet corn dripping with butter. Sliced tomatoes on the side. Sweet tea with mint in the glass. Summer suppers serenaded by cicadas. Life can be hard and unfair, but sometimes it is soft and gentle, too.
