Even though I seek to set boundaries in my life, there have certainly been times when my tendency to step over the line and get carried away have served me well. When I first met Lisa, I was her son’s physical therapist. Her little boy was the same age as mine and my heart hurt for the struggle her family faced.
When Lisa invited me over for a morning of apple turnovers and coffee and conversation, I knew right away we’d be friends. She sees the world through the eyes of a dancer. As the director of her own ballet company, Lisa devotes her life to nurturing creativity in her students. She is my cheerleader and reminds me that my fears and failures don’t define me. I listen to her because she is qualified, by her love for me, to give advice and guidance. She tells me the truth from both sides and helps me to be the best version of myself – always without judgment.
I want her to see herself as beautiful as I do. She belongs in my collection of forever friends.
These good relationships keep me happier and healthier.
