In the process of cultivating a simple and joyful life, I’ve been giving thought to what I cannot live without. What’s essential to me?
At the outset, restful sleep and good food and faith.
Laughter. For no apparent reason.
Sugar. I know . . . a little goes a long way.
A sense of belonging. Time spent in relationships with friends and family where my quirks and my flaws are accepted rather than treated as something to be fixed.
Nature. Time to walk, hike, ride my bike or just sit outside.
Creative pursuits. Books, art, photography, anything handmade or homemade.
Words and the spaces between them. Thoughtfulness, understanding, consideration, listening.
Touch. A hug, a handshake, a pat on the back, a kiss on the cheek.
