I started this day with a list, a morning ritual. Breathe. Drink water or hot tea. Stretch my body. Set my intention for the day. Start the day by doing something I love. Set priorities.
And then I totally ignored my list and skipped right to doing something I love – taking pictures. I pulled on a sweatshirt, skipped breakfast all together, and went outside. Even though the day was chilly and the skies were gray and overcast, it still felt like spring. A perfect day to explore.
On days like this, when I fall deep into the flow of making photographs, choosing a picture to share is heart-wrenching. Every picture is real. Every picture brings me to my knees with gratitude. Every picture feels like something new and different yet somehow a revealing of what has always been there.
I’m writing this journal entry to the music of the William & Mary radio station, WCWM, hosted by my son Jacob and his friend, Julia, as JJ’s Diner. They’re on every Sunday evening from 7 – 8 pm. I love hearing his voice. Growing up is hard and struggles are a part of the journey. He can’t see it just yet, but I already see his dreams coming true.
