The best thing about Election Day was that a long-awaited book arrived in my mailbox. I was delighted to receive A Year Between Friends – 3191 Miles Apart, by Maria Alexandra Vettese (MAV) and Stephanie Congdon Barnes (SCB).
In the foreword by Molly Wizenberg, she quotes Stephanie –
"The work we were doing was essential to surviving what life set before us."
And in this way, I feel a kinship with MAV and Stephanie. It was the struggle of dealing with my mother's Alzheimer's that led me to this practice of daily photography.
It's the photographs, the letters, and the stories that pull me in to this book. I love the way the book feels in my hands, just the right size, with pages printed in soft matte finish. I love that this creative effort is, at its core, an act of friendship.
These two women realized, and showed me, that every day is art. In doing so, they introduced me to a concept that changed my thinking and unleashed my own creative spirit.
Everyone has something purposeful to share, and this knowledge is healing.
