We were taking a ride in the country, a new-to-us road out near Lake Anna. We pulled over so I could take a few photos of the Healing Wings Church in Bumpass.
Standing in the middle of the road, taking pictures with a fancy camera, I find it is always a good idea to introduce myself to passersby. Folks in the country do not take kindly to people they do not know taking pictures in their neck of the woods. This is how I came to meet Gordy.
He was walking along Lewistown Road as I was making my picture of the church. He stopped to chat and told me he suffers with rheumatoid arthritis.
I take this route every day . . . what do they call it, my constitutional.
I smile and say, I’d like to get back this way again soon and take your picture.
I look up from the camera and see that he is standing still, looking at me squarely, waiting to have his picture made.
It’s not every day that a pretty lady asks to take my picture.
And just like that, I made a new friend.
I watched Gordy head on over to the Convenience Center next and I could hear the guys shooting the breeze.
This is the start of a new project for me, 100 Strangers.
