It's just bad timing that my mother needed surgery during the week I signed up to take a photography class. I thought about throwing in the towel and just letting the class go by without me, but then I took a look at the lessons, and I knew just how much I'd be missing.
After long and often heart-wrenching hours at the hospital by Mom's side, I've been coming home and staying up late to work my way through the lessons in the course from Illuminate – Project Development and Fine Art. The instructor, Deb Shwedhelm, has crafted a course with great care, creativity, and compassion. I feel challenged and exhilarated . . . a little afraid by just how much I love this work. I'm soaking up the information and immersing myself in new work, seizing spare moments to make new photographs.
So even though most of what I'm doing this week is coming and going, to and from the hospital, I've found a project that gives me just what I need. Or perhaps it would be more accurate to say that this project found me . . . Little Altars Everywhere.
I'm taking a short break for some deep work, but I'll be back in a few days.
