Still working along in the second lesson of Zen Camera, awareness.
I am resistant to tackle some of the exercises, particularly this one— photograph something you love and something you hate.
With certain subjects and themes, I feel a profound resonance, and these are the things I love, things I can truly engage with over my lifetime.
These photographs are relatively easy to make.
But things that bring outrage . . . these are harder to photograph because the emotions are painful.
The full range of emotions—sorrow, grief, hope, humility, empathy, remorse, wonder, love—they are the foundation of our humanity and our most sincere creative efforts.
These kinds of pictures are a long time coming.
