"I have learned my lesson. You don't get to a place by constantly moving, even if your journey is only one of sitting still and waiting. Every once in a while you have to stop in your tracks and admire the view, a small cloud and a tree outside your window. You have to see what you did not see before and then you have to sleep." –Rachel Joyce, The Love Song of Miss Queenie Hennessy
I've enjoyed this book in that wonderful way where you want to read passages out loud to anyone who will listen, where you slow down the pace of reading to savor each page, where the characters live with you long after you've closed the cover and returned the book to the shelf. The words seep in on some subliminal level. The colors drew me to this scene and the unusual sighting of a tree growing from what seemed to be the very foundation of the brownstone. It was only after I had taken this photograph that I noticed the window beside the tree and the clouds in the sky reflected on the glass pane.
I have learned my lesson - admire the view.
