Lake Anna State Park

On a recent Sunday, we spent the day wandering along the beach, hiking the trails, and chatting with visitors to Lake Anna State Park.

We arrived at the Park early, near 7am, as I hoped to take a few pictures of the lake and surrounding beach with soft morning light. Already car loads of visitors flocked to the beach, stringing hammocks between trees, setting up umbrellas, staking out picnic tables beneath shade trees, and lighting charcoal in grills and hibachi’s. Children headed out to swim or play soccer while men set up fishing poles, casting lines into the clear cool water. Music wafted everywhere and the atmosphere was festive.

I took picture after picture of the scenery but my favorite images were taken only in my mind – of smiling carefree people – enjoying a sunny summer’s day.

Three hours, two sandwiches, and one bottle of water later, we traveled the 30 miles back to Fredericksburg. We marveled over how relaxed and rejuvenated we felt with this little trip, so close to home.
