Even though Jacob was tired from a week of class and work and really happy to be heading home for the rest of the summer, he indulged my curiosity with a little side trip.
There was so much traffic on Interstate 95 for the July 4th weekend, we opted to travel from Williamsburg to Richmond by way of scenic Route 5. We detoured a few miles off our designated route onto Wilcox Neck Road to walk around the grounds of Piney Grove Plantation at Southall.
The grounds were manicured and the gardens lush with flowers – a visually beautiful space – but I was taken with the signs of works in progress. In the tending and care of our homes, there is the satisfaction of work, the joy of hospitality, and the security of shelter.
